– SIIA recognizes Discovery Education with prestigious CODiE Awards for Best Education Solution and Best Science Instructional Solution –

Silver Spring, Md. (May 17, 2012) – Discovery Education has been honored with two CODiE Awards from the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries. SIIA recognized Discovery Education`s K-8 Science Techbooks, a digital textbook series, with a CODiE Award for Best Science Instructional Solution and an overall award for Best Education Solution. Discovery Education was selected to receive the awards by a group of educators from across the nation and SIIA members.

A complete digital solution that replaces traditional textbooks, Discovery Education`s K-8 Science Techbooks feature dynamic, digital resources including interactive explorations and compelling video, images and informational text. The Techbooks are designed to meet the needs of individual learning styles, inspire students` curiosity and promote critical thinking. The Techbooks are a substantially less expensive option per student than traditional textbooks; allow teachers to incorporate current issues into their curriculum; and work with the existing hardware that the district has available, including iPads, tablets, mobile devices, laptops or desktops.

“Discovery Education is pleased to be recognized for leveraging technology and digital content to enhance teaching and learning,” said Bob Onsi, vice president, Discovery Education. “The awards from SIIA demonstrate our team`s commitment to providing high-quality resources that empower teachers, engage students and raise achievement.”

“This year`s winners reflect excellence and vision,” noted SIIA Vice President for the Education Division, Karen Billings. “I`m proud to congratulate them on the success of their applications, platforms, and products.”

Launched in the fall of 2011, the K-8 Science Techbooks are currently available in 36 states and provinces. In the first year of implementation, the Techbooks have positively impacted more than 200,000 students and teachers nationwide.

Since then, the CODiE Awards program has carried out the same purpose – to showcase the software and information industry`s finest products and services and to honor excellence in corporate achievement.
